KYI young leaders are involved in many activities directed to provide healthy alternative activities for our youth.  We have presented an annual EXPO and POTLUCK to showcase activities from caving, to skateboarding, paintballing, boy scouts, weaving, pottery and much more.  Fund-raising activities always feature fun opportunities for our youth and their families.  Special events such as the “Community Gathering” held after the death of a teenage boy due to an overdose of prescription drugs bring the community together around a subject of deep concern—substance abuse.  KYI has helped the community take note of our relatively low graduation rate and works to motivate community members to work to raise the number of students who receive their high school diploma. We are active members of the Ketchikan Wellness Coalition, Empowering Youth task force.
