AmeriCorps

The Corporation for National Service provides support to communities across the United States committed to their mission of ending poverty in our country.

KYI has been fortunate to benefit from the services of several VISTAs members and a 13 person NCCC AmeriCorps team.

AmeriCorps is a federal program in association with the Corporation for National and Community Service that provides non-profit, local government and community organizations with skilled volunteers who dedicated to fighting poverty.

Ketchikan Youth Initiatives was born under the guidance of four VISTAs in town during 2004—Alli Kitchner, Steve Alvarez, Jessica Reveri and Tracy Arce  Since then VISTAs have been instrumental in: developing a Community Building Initiative to provide services to non profits, designing the Ketchikan LINK website to provide a central source of information about non profit services, initiating the Youth to Work job readiness program and supporting the partnership with Creekside Meeting Center.
The latest venture is to work with KYI to redevelop the Old Water Warehouse building into a Youth Community Center.

The National Civilian Corp “Gold 3” team spent 6 weeks in Ketchikan working on the Hot Shots paintball field and headquarters building and clearing the Old Water Warehouse building to prepare it for redevelopment.  These highly committed volunteers (usually between 18 and late 20’s bring a wonderful spirit and energy into our community.
